Here I provide my process for writing my Narrative Project. Within this segment, I will provide all of the readings that were assigned over the course of this semester that have helped me grow as a writer.
After completing the first draft of my Narrative Project, I had read through "What is Creative Nonfiction?" (Lee Gutkind). This short reading really helped me develop my writing more. I say this because with my older blog posts I can see that my writing was pretty vague and bland. But, when I read the section that talked about how scenes are the "building blocks to writing I was able to grasp what this truly meant to me. The end result is me seeing how I can be a more detailed writer in my work.
The story "Hills Like White Elephants" (Ernest Hemingway) also helped me get a better grasp of what it means to write a scene. Hemingway was able to depict a scene so well in this short story that made me feel like I was there. When I was reading the piece, I noticed how he wrote in an abrupt manor. When we read it together in class, I was shown all of the hidden meanings in the scene. I tried to have reoccurring themes in my Narrative to try and give the scene a better sense of being tied together.
In my second draft, I have revised my story to be more of a fan fiction style of writing. I did have some fun with writing in this genre, but for my final draft I chose to revert back to my original story with a few minor changes.
